Honour pot
Steve T. Smith (born 1948) is a Mohawk potter based in Six Nations of the Grand River, Ontario. His mother, Elda “Bun” Smith, revived traditional pottery making at Six Nations of the Grand River in the early 1960s. His wife, Leigh Smith, is also a potter, and their daughter, Santee Smith, is a celebrated multidisciplinary artist. The Smith family founded Talking Primarily decorative vases, Steve T. Smith has been making pottery since the 1980s. His work can be found in museums and galleries across Canada and internationally. The imagery in his work is reflective of his heritage and often depicts local flora & fauna, landscapes, skies, human figures, and geometric line work patterns; much of the details on his works use or are inspired by Haudenosaunee symbolism, and his work is usually colourful.
